European Easter Traditions: How Our Primary School Students Became Part of an International Project

Students from THG primary school participated in the international eTwinning project “European Easter Adventures,” which brought together kindergarten and primary school students from seven European countries: Estonia, Romania, Lithuania, Greece, Italy, Poland, and Spain. The project focused on exploring Easter traditions, celebrating cultural diversity, and understanding the spiritual significance of the holiday.

Over the course of two months, students engaged in creative and digital activities alongside their European peers, learning how Easter is celebrated in different countries and sharing their own family traditions. The children shared their favorite holiday foods, home decorations, and traditional folk items. Many students found it particularly fascinating to compare traditions across different nations and discover the common threads that connect people throughout Europe.

The students decorated Easter eggs, drew and crafted holiday cards, and participated in online meetings. The project helped the children not only develop their creative abilities but also acquire essential modern digital skills. Participants completed simple programming and robotics tasks, created collaborative web projects, and learned how to communicate with children from other countries using digital platforms.

Teachers Irina Yartseva, Tatjana Paju-Stetski, Aljona Leokina, Lilit Mazmanyan, Alla Pugatšjova, and Natalja Varkki were actively involved in the project. They helped the children master new tasks, supported their creative initiatives, and guided their work within international teams.

The project also played a significant role in developing social skills. By working in international teams, students learned to respect the traditions of other nations, find common ground, cooperate, and support one another. Such projects help children feel like part of a large European family, where friendship, mutual understanding, and respect for cultural differences are highly valued.

Participation in this project aligns perfectly with the core eTwinning theme, “Skills for Life.” Our students developed creativity, communication skills, digital literacy, and teamwork—qualities that are increasingly vital in today’s world.

For the students of THG, this project was more than just an exciting journey into the world of European traditions; it was an opportunity to make new friends, learn more about the cultures of other countries, and feel part of a larger international community.
